Every goat, every time

We work through the herd by hand, record what we observe and carry anything unusual into the next check.

We originally planned two complete herd checks each week. That pace proved difficult to sustain properly, so we adjusted the routine to one structured whole-herd check a week.

Zakaria works through the goats one at a time. We look at how each animal moves and eats, handle the body and hooves, check the coat, eyes and mouth, and decide whether anything needs attention. When relevant, we record weight, temperature, body condition, FAMACHA score, ticks, symptoms and any action taken.

The weekly rhythm gives us observations we can compare over time. If something changes, the next check begins with the earlier record instead of memory alone.
