We cut and dried grass while it was available, preparing feed that could be carried into the drier months.

When the grass was available in May, we cut it and spread the bales across the field to dry. The photographs show the physical scale of the job: hay across the ground, one worker moving among it and more material still to turn and gather.
Drying determines whether the hay can be stored safely, so we watch the weather and moisture before moving it under cover. We record when we cut, the conditions during drying and the amount that reaches storage. Those details will guide the next round of haymaking.
